Gifted students

At Stedelijk College Eindhoven, we pay a lot of attention to the pupil. We find it important that students feel comfortable and enjoy going to school. For cognitively talented pupils there is a lot to choose from. Besides the regular subjects, pupils can do extra activities after school, such as Chinese, philosophy, chess and participation at the debate team.

There is also a peer group MHB (multiple and gifted). In that group, pupils can discuss anything that concerns them: from things they are very excited about to things they might need some extra help with. For example, topics such as executive skills (e.g. planning and task initiation) often come up in Year 1. The aim of this group is to provide pupils with a safe environment in which they can share what they want to share and learn with and from each other.

If you participate in the MHB programme, you will meet like-minded students (peers) in a peer group. There are two groups:

  • Year 1 and 2 → In the group for Year 1 and 2, you will pay attention to learning strategies and strengthening your executive functions. Perhaps learning in primary school came fairly naturally, but you will notice that new skills are expected of you in secondary school. For example, think about planning and organising your homework, communicating with your teachers and keeping in touch with your classmates.
  • Years 3 to 6 → If you take part in the peer group for pupils in years 3 to 6, you will meet to talk and discuss various topics. These include topics that you introduce yourselves and that are not (always) addressed during lessons and projects. You can think here of questions about attitude to life and identity development.
