Bilingual education

Discover the world through language
With Bilingual Education (TTO), you discover the world through language. You do not just learn English in the classroom. You use it to work together, explore different cultures and challenge yourself in new ways. As a result, you develop not only your language skills, but also your confidence and a broader understanding of the world around you.

Do you have a recommendation for havo or vwo and enjoy looking beyond your own surroundings? Are you interested in using English, discovering different cultures and taking on new challenges? If so, TTO could be the perfect choice for you.

You do not need to be an expert in English to get started. Curiosity, motivation and an open mind are far more important.

Learning in two languages
In the first years of secondary school, at least 50% of your lessons are taught in English. You use English not only in English lessons, but also in a range of other subjects. This helps you learn the language naturally and become increasingly confident in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English.

You do not need to speak perfect English to join TTO. Curiosity, motivation and a willingness to challenge yourself are far more important than flawless language skills. Along the way, you will also develop valuable skills such as presenting, debating, collaborating and communicating in an international environment.

More than just English
TTO is about much more than learning a language. You take part in international projects, explore different cultures and discover how people around the world live, learn and work together. Step by step, you develop into a global citizen: someone who is open to different perspectives and feels at home in an international environment.

At our school, you learn alongside students from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. This international and multilingual environment makes our school unique and helps prepare you for a future in which international cooperation is becoming increasingly important.

Activities and projects
Bilingual Education (TTO) opens the door to international study opportunities, exchanges and a future in which working across borders is becoming increasingly important. To help prepare you for this, we organise a wide range of exciting and educational TTO activities throughout the year.

These include the TTO First Year Camp, the Highland Games, public speaking competitions, international projects and activities focused on global citizenship.

You will also explore topics such as Diets of the World and can take part in projects with international and cultural themes. In this way, you not only develop your English language skills, but also gain a deeper understanding of the world around you.

Trips and international exchanges
With TTO, learning extends beyond the classroom. In every year of the lower school, we organise activities and trips that give you the opportunity to use English in real-life situations and learn about different cultures. Examples include trips to the United Kingdom, partnerships with schools abroad and international projects in which students from different countries work together.

One of the highlights of the TTO programme takes place in the upper school, when you take part in an international exchange project. During this experience, you will immerse yourself in another culture and use English to communicate with students from countries such as Italy and Spain. As well as gaining valuable international experience, you will make new friends and discover the world from different perspectives.

In this way, you will not only strengthen your language skills, but also develop a broader outlook on the world and the confidence to thrive in an international environment.

An international school in the Brainport Eindhoven region
Stedelijk College Eindhoven is located in the heart of the Brainport Eindhoven region, an area known for its technology, innovation and international outlook. This international character is reflected throughout our school, where students learn and grow in a diverse environment that brings together different languages, cultures and backgrounds.

Through our wide range of languages, international projects, global citizenship activities and worldwide partnerships, we prepare students for a future in which international collaboration is becoming increasingly important. As a result, they not only develop strong English language skills, but also gain the knowledge, skills and mindset needed to thrive in an international and rapidly changing world.

An internationally recognised qualification
In the upper years of TTO, you will prepare for your Dutch national examinations while also working towards an internationally recognised qualification.

This means that, alongside your havo or vwo diploma, you will gain a qualification that demonstrates your strong English language skills and international competencies, providing an excellent foundation for further study and future opportunities.

A brief history of bilingual ducation at Stedelijk College Eindhoven
Our school introduced Bilingual Education (TTO) in 1992, making us one of the first schools in the Netherlands to offer this type of programme. What started with just a small number of students has grown into one of the cornerstones of our school. Today, around 40% to 50% of our students follow a bilingual pathway.

Since 2005, we have been an officially recognised Senior TTO School, meaning that bilingual education is available throughout both the lower and upper years of secondary education. We are also one of the few schools in the region to offer IB English Language and Literature in the upper years, a subject specifically designed for native English speakers.

Bilingual education is truly part of who we are. With years of experience, specialist expertise and a passion for international education, we help our students achieve their full potential and make the most of their talents.
